Inner City Garden

This project was a real blast from the past! Over 20 years ago, I first worked on this property as a plasterer during a major renovation. Fast forward to today, and I returned to transform the tired garden of this inner-city period townhouse.

Working closely with the client and Verde Design, we created a plan that seamlessly connected the open-plan living space to the garden. A smooth transition from the bifold doors leads onto a composite Millboard deck with a custom subframe, featuring carefully placed cut-outs for planting, BBQ areas, and even a small playhouse.

The soft movement of large-format planting and ornamental grasses brings a gentle, flowing energy to the space. One of the biggest challenges was access, so the design and materials were chosen specifically to reduce groundworks, minimise waste, and keep costs down.

Despite the hurdles, the result was well worth it—a beautiful, functional garden that perfectly complements the home.
